What innovative technology initiative or project are you most proud of, and how has it improved teaching and learning in your school/district?Cyber bullying is a huge issue for our youth. Fifth graders at our school are given multiple opportunities to serve as positive role models for our younger students. As part of our Internet Safety unit, our students are taught what cyber bullying is, the consequences for cyber bullying and how they can stand up against it. All the content of the unit is online. At the end of our unit, students are given a chance to serve as teachers for our younger students. Each student must create a multimedia presentation to teach other students about cyber bullying. Students have their choice of creating an animated video, educational comic book, digital storybook, or live action video. All tools that they can use for this project are web based. Students must also answer specific questions about cyber bullying in their presentations. Once their projects are completed, the students then have to present them to the younger students at our school. Based on the content of their projects, students are then paired up with 3-6 students in grades K-4. The fifth graders act as the teachers and are responsible for leading their small group. They present their projects, do a related craft and game activity with the students. This is a much more meaningful activity than having an adult teacher lead the activity because the younger children respond really well to the Fifth graders. The Fifth graders, in turn, love having the chance to be role models and perform their tasks with composure and maturity.
What were some of the biggest challenges to your initiative, and how did you meet those challenges?Since our entire unit is online, the biggest challenge I had with this unit is wifi connectivity and keeping the children on task. The girls have a lot of questions about this issue and look forward to working with the other children.
What are the three biggest components that need to be in place for tech innovation to succeed are:
Technology integration and pedagogy-involves using technology to achieve student- centered teaching.

|It isn't enough to simply show students how to use a specific technology. The technology used must enable students to learn in a relevant real world contexts, must allow for learning/collaboration/sharing and must allow for equal access to all resources.|
