Social media’s popularity means educators have a number of avenues to develop their professional learning networks and learn from one another.

Blogging gives educators a platform to share best practices, pose questions to their peers, and explore new ideas about teaching and learning.

1. The Innovative Educator
Lisa Nielsen became a public school educator to help change the school experience for students. She does this by finding and sharing innovative ways to prepare students for relevant and real-world success. Among other things, this means ensuring educators and students have a voice in conversations, issues, and policies that affect them.

2. iterating toward openness
Dr. David Wiley is Chief Academic Officer of Lumen Learning, an organization focused on increasing student success, reinvigorating pedagogy, and improving the affordability of education through the adoption of open educational resources by schools, community and state colleges, and universities. He is the Education Fellow at Creative Commons and adjunct faculty in Brigham Young University’s graduate program in Instructional Psychology and Technology, where he leads the Open Education Group.

3. Tech Tips 411
While not technically a blog, author Jennifer Hall serves as one of Atlanta Public Schools’ Educational Technology Specialists (ETS). As a member of the Instructional Technology Department, she works with teachers to integrate technology into their instructional planning. The site is intended to help educators access great ed-tech tips and resources for instructional planning, along with tools for increasing student engagement.

4. EmergingEdTech
Kelly Walsh is the CIO and faculty member at The College of Westchester in White Plains, N.Y. On EmergingEdTech, Walsh interacts with a community of other educators and technologists and explores the use of technology as an instructional tool and enabler. Each week, Walsh researches relevant topics and writes articles seeking to provide information, insight, and/or opinion about those topics.

5. Web and OL Daily
Stephen Downes works in the Learning and Performance Support Systems program at the National Research Council, a multi-year effort to develop personal learning technology and learning analytics. Downes is one of the originators of the Massive Open Online Course. He writes about online and networked learning, has authored learning management and content syndication software, and is the author of the e-learning newsletter OLDaily.

6. 21st Century Educational Technology and Learning
Michael Gorman, is a graduate of Western Michigan University, Indiana University, and Johns Hopkins University. He has partnered with ISTE and various educational, governmental, and business organizations and foundations. He oversees a one-to-one laptop program and digital professional development for Southwest Allen County Schools near Fort Wayne, Indiana.

7. The Daring Librarian
Gwyneth A. Jones is a Google Certified Teacher and was named an Innovator and a Mover & Shaker by Library Journal Magazine in 2011, a Gale/Cengage New Leader 2010, and the Best of the Best and a Visionary Leader by Teacher Librarian Magazine in 2012. She served on the 2011-2014 ISTE Board of Directors representing all PK-12 educators and school librarians. Her work and writings have been featured in the New York Times, The Washington Post, and the Huffington Post.

8. Around the Corner
Transforming teaching, learning and leadership through the strategic application of technology has been Miguel Guhlin’s motto. As a veteran educator comfortable with modeling the use of technology at the classroom, campus, and district level, Guhlin works to use powerful technologies to transform practice and enable learners to communicate and collaborate with each other.

9. My Paperless Classroom
Sam Patterson writes My Paperless Classroom, the journal of a Maker Wrangler at Echo Horizon School. The blog is part of the TeacherCast website. TeacherCast developed as a way to host curated resources for teachers and students to help them learn how to use educational technology in their classrooms.
