Students and Teachers in Utah’s Davis School District Set to Begin the 2022-23 School Year with New Science Resources from Discovery Education

Charlotte, NC (Thursday, August 25, 2022)—Students and teachers in Utah’s Davis School District (DSD) will return to the classroom for the 2022-2023 school year with state-of-the-art digital resources thanks to a new partnership with worldwide edtech leader Discovery Education. Through this new collaboration, DSD students in grades 7-12 will be immersed in rich science content through a suite of digital tools that will fuel academic achievement.

Serving nearly 75,000 students across North Central Utah’s Davis County, DSD is the second largest school district in the state. Dedicated to providing an innovative, relevant, and well-rounded education for all students, DSD’s staff sought a new set of science resources for students in the district’s junior and senior high school science classes. Specifically, DSD sought digital resources that would deeply engage students in science instruction, increase student literacy in science and STEM, and connect students to real-world learning opportunities.

Following a careful review, the district selected the Discovery Education Science Techbooks for classroom use. The Discovery Education Science Techbook series is a comprehensive, research-backed science solution for grades K-12. Used in classrooms across the United States and Canada and delivered through Discovery Education’s K-12 platform, the Science Techbook drives engagement with exclusive phenomena and interactive content.

Virtual and hands-on investigations, STEM activities, and a variety of instructional supports enhance the delivery of impactful, blended instruction, in person or at a distance. Available with the Science Techbooks are coordinated digital and print teacher guides offering unit, concept, and lesson overviews, standards connections, and differentiation activities to inform instructional planning and guide three-dimensional learning. Teacher editions also provide flexible pacing options, embedded teacher notes, and pathways for learning to support diverse learners.

The Discovery Education Science Techbooks are delivered through the Discovery Education platform. Connecting educators to a vast collection of high-quality, standards-aligned content, ready-to-use digital lessons, intuitive quiz and activity creation tools, and professional learning resources, Discovery Education provides educators an enhanced learning platform that facilitates engaging, daily instruction in any learning environment. These resources, sourced from trusted partners, are aligned to state and national standards, and help educators bring the outside world into teaching and learning every day.

“Davis School District seeks to provide all students an environment where growth and learning can flourish,” said DSD Director of Teaching and Learning Belinda Kuck. “Dynamic resources—such as those provided by Discovery Education—offer the district’s educators an exciting new set of tools with which to teach our junior high and high school students about the wonders of the scientific world. We are excited to begin utilizing these in the classroom.”

District educators using Discovery Education’s digital services will receive dedicated professional learning to help them effectively use these resources in the coming school year and recognize the full return on DSD’s edtech investment. Through these interactive professional development sessions, participants will learn best practices for integrating their new digital resources into instruction. Effective professional development will maximize the power of these resources, increase student engagement in learning, and support their continued academic development.

DSD educators using Discovery Education resources will also enjoy access to the Discovery Education Community. A global network of education professionals, the Discovery Education Community connects members across school systems and around the world through social media, virtual conferences, and in-person events, fostering valuable idea sharing and inspiration.

“The Davis School District has laid out a compelling vision for science education in the district, and we are excited to be supporting their work,” said Duane Waber, M.Ed., Discovery Education’s Manager of Education Partnerships. “We look forward to collaborating with their innovative team on this important initiative.”
