Derby, Kansas – Derby North Middle School (DNMS) in Derby, Kansas, has found a unique and effective way to build culture and increase student engagement with the help of Rise Vision digital signage software and Class Intercom.
DNMS had faced issues with their previous digital signage provider, including hard-to-use software, inconsistent uptime, and lack of support. With the help of Kansas City Audio Visual (KCAV), a Rise Vision partner, DNMS switched to Rise Vision for their digital signage needs.
DNMS has taken a unique approach to student recognition with the integration of its social media accounts and Rise Vision displays. With the use of the Class Intercom app, students create photo and video content, write a post about DNMS, and select which school social media channel to post it to. The content then gets delivered to moderators at DNMS who approve it or send back changes to the student. Once the content is approved, it gets published on DNMS’s social media accounts and automatically pushed to displays around the school for everyone to see.
This integration has been made possible with the use of Rise Vision’s pre-built social media templates that automatically display social media updates on the school’s displays. The effort to streamline student recognition was initiated by DNMS Principal, Jeff Smith, who saw the opportunity to make students feel good about their work and encourage them to be a part of the school’s culture.
Other notable strategies DNMS has created to increase student engagement include integrating yearbook staff in the content creation process for displays running Rise Vision and developing a video production class that will further serve as a means to recognize student-driven content creation on displays running Rise Vision. This new approach to student recognition is not only a creative way to engage students but also saves staff time by reducing the manual effort required to publish student-created content.
“I could be a tech guy, but I don’t have time to be a tech guy. The plug-and-play aspect of Rise Vision coupled with the ability to delegate roles and have it still keep chugging along is wonderful,” says Jeff Smith, Principal at DNMS.
Overall, the integration of social media and displays at DNMS serves as a model for other schools looking to increase student engagement and recognition. By making it easy for students to showcase their work and share it with their peers, DNMS is creating a positive and supportive learning environment that encourages students to be creative and confident.
Head of Marketing at Rise Vision, Shea Darlison, comments on the success of DNMS, “We are thrilled to see the positive impact Rise Vision has had on creating a positive school culture and increasing student engagement at DNMS. This case study showcases how schools use our digital signage software in innovative ways to make a difference in students’ lives.”
