Listen to these real-life incidents* …

> . . .When eight laptops were stolen from a Texas high school, the business teacher was “devastated.” But thank goodness, that wasn’t the end of the story. In less than a month, police recovered all eight laptops, and the offenders were under arrest. Tracking software installed on the laptops made that happy ending possible.

> . . . High school students in one Kentucky school district have more than 2,200 laptops. District policy allows users to be administrators for their own machines. Students can install software and troubleshoot problems . . . Such freedom could lead to chaos, but it doesn’t. Why not? Tracking software on each laptop allows school district IT asset managers to monitor student actions and generate reports on which students have installed banned software overnight.
