The need to learn from the practices of highly effective teachers to help more students excel is one of the great challenges elementary educators face. Research has shown the effectiveness of formative assessment and formative instructional practices – it’s through this research that providing differentiated instruction has become the expectation in classrooms.

No one is more qualified to speak to this issue than Mary Peters, Senior Director of Research, Battelle For Kids. Dr. Peters has been active in school reform for over twenty five years. She served as Director of Assessment and Research at a diverse, large school district, where she led data-based decision modeling and the assessment program. Dr. Peters has authored peer-reviewed articles and policy white papers and briefs, and has served as an adjunct professor for over 10 years. She regularly presents and consults at national and local levels on topics related to teacher quality research, value-added assessment, formative assessment systems, and school improvement and accountability.

In this webinar you will:

  • Learn what research tells us about the characteristics and practices of highly effective teachers, and the formative instructional techniques at the core of their approach.
  • Find out how effective teachers differentiate instruction for the diverse range of students in the classroom.
  • Understand how interactive learning technology with embedded assessments provides real time formative information to help elementary teachers effectively accelerate student learning.

Also presenting at this webinar will be Dr. Tim Hudson, the K-12 Coordinator of Mathematics for the Parkway School District in Missouri. The Parkway School School District integrated DreamBox Learning into their math curriculum to help differentiate instruction and honor students’ individual abilities. Dr. Hudson will speak on the benefits of real-time formative assessment and online adaptive learning in individualizing instruction for each student.
