According to a 1996 study from the National Center for Education Statistics, 46 percent of children in the United States enter kindergarten at risk of failure and a stunning 88 percent of these never catch up. Now, an early childhood literacy program is attempting to close this achievement gap by reaching kids during that critical stage from pre-K through 3rd grade.
