Innovate to Educate Entry

Dublin City Schools

Scott Ostrow, AFJROTC Sr. Aerospace Science Instructor

What innovative technology initiative or project are you most proud of, and how has it improved teaching and learning in your school/district?

I applied for, and received funding toward the purchase of a drone that we have used in our classroom settings to give our cadets real-world application to what they are taught in the classroom. It has made the classroom instruction more practical in the minds of my students, and has helped me expand on their learning opportunities.

What were some of the biggest challenges to your initiative, and how did you meet those challenges?

The biggest challenge is always funding and resources. While we have access to some thanks to our connections to the U.S. Armed Forces, we are always looking for additional resources to supplement and, ultimately, help us toward our ultimate goal of High Achievement and Success for All Students.

What are the three biggest components that need to be in place for tech innovation to succeed are:

Connecting people with available resources to classroom settings/schools who are prepared to apply those resources in the most thoughtful ways.
