Genius Hour Project

What innovative technology initiative or project are you most proud of, and how has it improved teaching and learning in your school/district?

As part of our Middle School Integrated Language Arts program, 'Genius Hour' was a project based learning activity that engaged students to research topics or concepts about which they were passionate. Students presented their 'Genius Hour' projects to their peers proving that true understanding of a concept stems from the students ability to teach that concept. Chromebooks were used in the research and development of the 'Genius Hour' projects.

What were some of the biggest challenges to your initiative, and how did you meet those challenges?

The biggest challenge was navigating the difficulties that we faced upgrading our infrastructure in an aging facility of 55 plus years to support the use of Chromebooks.

What are the three biggest components that need to be in place for tech innovation to succeed are:

Adequate Infrastructure
Up-to-date technology
Teacher Professional Development
