D-Link might best be known for its wireless routers, but the company offers a host of other products and services for education.

Centurion Technologies SmartShield and SmartControl software offer new ways to protect the safety and sustainability of school computers. With SmartShield, all changes made to a machine are removed upon system restart—making unwanted system changes an impossibility, the company says. In addition, Centurion’s ScreenView software allows teachers to keep students on task by displaying thumbnails of the students’ computers on the teacher’s screen, and its EnergySaver software automatically powers down idle computers, helping to manage energy usage.

CIPAFilter showed a new Network Access Control feature as part of its filtering and security offerings. This new feature gives school leaders the ability to easily manage and control mobile devices that connect to their school’s network, including iPads, iPhones, laptops, and other devices.

D-Link, perhaps best known for the wireless routers it sells in the consumer market, highlighted its many products and services for schools as well, including networking equipment and switches, network security solutions, IP surveillance products, and network storage. The company said its networking gear can be had for about half the cost of Cisco equipment, and most items come with a five-year warranty.

Enterasys distributed its Networking and Security Pocket Guide, which details Enterasys products, features, benefits, and selling points. Products include the S-Series modular switch routers, X-Series modular core/data center router, and the A/B/C-Series flexible gigabit Ethernet stackable edge switches.

The company’s DNA features hardware and software inventory, application metering, internet metering, license management, software distribution, enterprise reporting, energy monitoring, and active directory integration.

Sophos demonstrated its security systems, which are used in K-12 schools across North America, to prevent infection from viruses, spam, and other malware. The solutions offer a simple approach to securing endpoint computers and eMail gateways while also ensuring safe web browsing and complete network access control, Sophos said.

Video IQ, which provides IP surveillance cameras and encoders with built-in video recording, announced its iCVR-HD High Definition Cameras that deliver full 1080p resolution and frame rate, zero-bandwidth recording, full megapixel analytics, and support for IQTrack—an automatic digital PTZ zoom and tracking feature.
