Boston, MA – WGBH Boston and WGBY Springfield today announced that Teachers’ Domain, the public broadcasters’ free online media library of classroom-ready digital resources for teachers and students, is partnering with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) to launch Massachusetts Teachers’ Domain. This edition of Teachers’ Domain will align all its media resources for PreK-12 educators and students to the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. The goal of Massachusetts Teachers’ Domain is to give Massachusetts educators direct access to digital resources related to concepts and skills in the Frameworks to help galvanize classroom learning.
Today’s launch of Massachusetts Teachers’ Domain is the first step in a multi-year partnership between WGBH, WGBY, and the Massachusetts DESE to make the service increasingly useful to Massachusetts educators, students, and parents. Massachusetts Teachers’ Domain currently offers more than 2,200 free, classroom-ready media resources from the best in public television, including video and audio segments, interactives, student activities, and lesson plans for teachers.  Over the next two years, all resources will line up with Massachusetts educational standards.  Also in the works: adding Frameworks as they are adopted by the Massachusetts DESE, and implementing a single sign-on to Teachers’ Domain for educators using MassONE, the department’s current online portal for educators.
"Public television has produced some extraordinary content, and bringing those multi-media components into the classroom will help bring much of the content to life for our students," said Education Commissioner Mitchell D. Chester. "We are fortunate to have a media giant like WGBH in our backyard, and I am pleased to be able to partner with them to offer these valuable resources to our educators."

Massachusetts Teachers’ Domain is offered free to anyone who registers (www.teachersdomain.org). The national edition of Teachers’ Domain is currently available to more than 400,000 registered users in 187 countries around the world.  Only users signed in with an account registered in Massachusetts will be able to access this state’s specific edition.
“We are thrilled to partner with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to customize Teachers’ Domain to meet the needs of Massachusetts teachers,” says Jon Abbott, WGBH’s President and CEO. “This collaboration allows us to better serve our constituents and gives teachers access to award-winning media resources from Teachers’ Domain to meet students’ diverse learning styles and educational requirements.”

Massachusetts Teachers’ Domain
follows in the footsteps of VITAL New York—a New York state-specific edition of Teachers’ Domain aligned to the state’s core curriculum—launched in 2008 in collaboration with WNET Thirteen in New York.

This partnership with the Massachusetts DESE also enhances opportunities for educators to take advantage of professional development courses and training workshops offered by WGBH, WGBY, and PBS TeacherLine. Teachers’ Domain currently offers K-12 science educators courses in Life Science, Physical Science, and Earth and Space Science, with a new Biotechnology course launching Fall 2010.
