Texas Instruments delivers free algebra and geometry webinar series for teachers

Texas Instruments is delivering a free, eight-webinar series for algebra and geometry teachers, through April 2010. This series will provide tools and tips for helping teachers cultivate a deeper student understanding of algebra and geometry by focusing on those concepts students struggle with the most.

The series is based on the Algebra Nspired and Geometry Nspired lesson resource and complements use of the TI-Nspire™ handheld and TI-Nspire computer software. The webinar series, lead by experienced math educators, will demonstrate new approaches to incorporating action/consequence teaching methods to build students’ understanding of core algebra and geometry concepts. Action/consequence lessons ask students to take action on a math object and observe the consequence to reflect on the math implications.

The webinar classes, hosted by Teachers Teaching with Technology™ (T3) instructors, include:

  • On demand – an introduction to Algebra Nspired and Geometry Nspired.
  • On demand – Algebra – Equations; Geometry – Triangles
  • Nov. 10, 2009 – Algebra – Linear Functions; Geometry – Similarity and Proportion
  • Dec. 8, 2009 – Algebra – Linear Inequalities; Geometry – Right Triangles and Trigonometry

In developing Algebra Nspired and Geometry Nspired, TI pinpointed the algebra and geometry concepts students seem to have the most trouble understanding. TI then developed a content resource center to better equip new teachers, and seasoned veterans alike, with the tools they need to help students build conceptual understanding of critical math concepts.

The result is Algebra Nspired and Geometry Nspired, a collection of online, action/consequence lessons and tools that leverage the advanced features of TI-Nspire technology. These lessons are aligned to textbooks and to state and provincial curriculum and assessment standards. Each lesson includes teacher notes, TI-Nspire activity documents to explore math concepts and activities teachers can easily customize for their students.
