Task force to overhaul education in Kentucky

A new effort is under way to overhaul education in Kentucky, with the goal of better preparing students for the future, KYPost.com reports. Gov. Steve Beshear this week announced the new task force, called Transforming Education in Kentucky (TEK). The task force will look at many things, including how to transform career and technical education. At the JD Patton Area Technology Center in Edgewood, you’d expect to find students learning blue-collar jobs like carpentry. Now, the school is expanding its curriculum to include green jobs: The school already at in the forefront of programs that involve saving energy, and its has started a new program that certifies adults to be green energy auditors. On Oct. 21, Beshear stopped by JD Patton to recognize one of the first classes in this emerging industry. Preparing students for the 21st-century workforce is one of the objectives of the task force, which is expected to make recommendations to state lawmakers by the end of 2010…
