New web site helps students explore STEM careers

Educators who want to help students better prepare for the technology careers of the future now have a new resource in the Math & Science Career section of Texas Instruments¹ Education Technology Student Zone. As the need for technical work continues to grow, the ability to use math and science to solve problems, make discoveries, and develop new products is critical, TI says.

$12,500 for budding scientists

Disney’s Planet Challenge is a free, project-based environmental and science competition for classrooms nationwide. The competition offers budding scientists the chance to use their imagination and creativity to help the planet while giving educators a fresh new way to motivate students with the help of an educationally sound curriculum that meets national and state guidelines requirements. For the project, students identify an environmental issue in their local community and design a solution they manage from start to finish.

Classroom AV systems and cash prizes

The 2010 AVerMedia Interactive Classroom Video Contest asks teachers and educators to create a 2-minute or shorter “commercial-type” video as to how AVerMedia products have helped or could help in the classroom, or how they and/or their students would promote AVerMedia as a company, its products and/or its services.

Funds to help pay for Advanced Placement tests

The AP Test Fee program awards grants to eligible state educational agencies to enable them to pay all or a portion of advanced placement test fees on behalf of eligible low-income students who are enrolled in an advanced placement course and plan to take an advanced placement exam. The program is designed to increase the number of low-income students who take advanced placement tests and receive scores for which college academic credit is awarded.

Fellowships for educators to study Abraham Lincoln

This program offers 50 teachers a fellowship to study the life and legacy of our 16th president. The fellowship is open to any full-time teacher of kindergarten through 12th grade of any discipline in the United States except residents of Kentucky, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, and Hawaii or anyone who has ever won a Horace Mann – Abraham Lincoln Fellowship.

$500 awards for youth gardening projects

The Subaru Healthy Sprouts Award recognizes and supports youth gardening programs focused on teaching about our environment, nutrition, and hunger issues in the United States. Through winning programs, youth will learn the skills necessary to maintain a healthy lifestyle compatible with environmental stewardship and gain an understanding of how their actions can positively impact the well-being of their community.
