Madison, WI – July 7, 2009 – Magna Publications, the leading provider of higher education resources, today announced a new online course developed to help faculty make a smooth transition to the online classroom. Online Courses: Step-by-Step teaches instructors the key elements of effective online teaching and course design, including teaching methods for maximizing student satisfaction and learning outcomes.
The online course is led by John Orlando, Ph.D., instructional resource manager at the Norwich University School of Graduate Studies where he helped grow the online program from 42 students to more than 1,200 students. Orlando is a frequent presenter on distance education, including speaking engagements at the University Continuing Education Association conferences, and the Annual Conference on Distance Teaching and Learning.
Organized in three modules, Online Courses: Step-by-Step is a self-paced online course that will introduce higher education faculty to critical online teaching concepts, and provide detailed guidance on the tools and strategies for managing workload, assessing student learning, encouraging collaboration, and more.
The course features a variety of audio and video presentations by Orlando, as well as technology demonstrations, quizzes, and virtual tours of effective course designs and learning tools. An online forum allows participants to communicate with others taking the course.
Each module takes approximately 90 minutes to complete, depending on one’s comfort level with the material presented. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to design an online or hybrid course with at least the same pedagogical rigor as a face-to-face course. They also will understand how to incorporate the latest technologies into their online courses to create a rich learning experience.
Online Courses: Step-by-Step costs $299 for a single seat, $269/pp for two-nine participants, $239/pp for 10-20 participants, or $209/pp for 21-50 participants.
