School Loop’s New OpenLoop High Priority Group API Helps Districts Manage High-stakes Interventions

School Loop’s second OpenLoop API application makes data sharing easy

San Francisco, CA –– September 22, 2009 – K-12 districts that use School Loop Plus can now create and manage high priority groups of students on the fly with the OpenLoop High Priority Group API.  High Priority Groups are sets of students who require ongoing teacher attention, like at risk students, Special Education students or English language learners.  With OpenLoop High Priority Group API, these groups can be identified in any data analysis, assessment, attendance, special education, or student information system used by a district, and that same identification is sent directly into School Loop Plus.

Open APIs for data exchange are common in most industries, but K-12 companies have not yet offered these benefits to districts. OpenLoop from School Loop is a set of web-based, easy-to-use and flexible services that allow software developers and K- 12 districts to exchange data with subsystems in School Loop Plus.

"A big problem that many districts face, particularly in secondary school, is how to focus teacher attention on subgroups in their classes.  Many have invested significant time and money on data systems without realizing the payoff in the form of action in the classroom.  OpenLoop High Priority Group API addresses that problem," said Mark Gross, CEO and founder of School Loop.

The OpenLoop APIs are implemented through a secure http web-service. The web-service is a simple, but powerful, REST-based implementation, meaning no extra message layering — such as SOAP – is required.  The password-protected XML interface makes it automatic, providing vendors with an extremely flexible, secure, and easy-to-implement interface.

OpenLoop High Priority Group API is the second OpenLoop API.  The first, OpenLoop Gradebook API, allows districts or vendors to move assignments from School Loop into other tools for scoring, and then back into the School Loop gradebook.

School Loop is one of California’s largest providers of web-based applications for K-12 school districts. School Loop Standard is a free website service for K-12 school districts. School Loop Plus turns websites into learning communities. A full list of School Loop products is available at:
