Education metadata project launches new website


The Association of Educational Publishers (AEP) and Creative Commons have launched an online forum for educators to learn about and discuss their effort to create a common metadata vocabulary for describing learning resources—a project that could help make search results more relevant for students and teachers.

The website, www.LRMI.net, provides background information about the Learning Resource Metadata Initiative (LRMI), including information about the project’s leadership, technical working group, and advisory group, as well as examples of what this framework could mean when applied to the field of online search. There are also forums where users can post questions and provide feedback, and the site will act as the hub for collecting feedback during the project’s public comment period later this year.

“The LRMI leadership is fully aware that to be successful, this framework will need the support of a wide array of constituencies, so we’ve built the website with a focus on transparency and feedback,” said Charlene Gaynor, CEO of AEP.

As publication of the common metadata framework draws nearer, there will be a page on the site for content developers to sign on in support of the framework.
