The Idaho state legislature’s House Education Committee has advanced a measure allowing traditional public schools to contract with private companies that offer online education courses, reports the Idaho Statesman. The committee voted 12-5 on the bill, which is intended to give flexibility to school districts. The Idaho Digital Learning Academy, controlled by the state Department of Education, currently provides online course to traditional schools in Idaho. Republican Rep. Steven Thayn says the change will give traditional schools an opportunity to offer more online programs.
