CoSN resource highlights how leaders can best position their schools for digital and mobile success
The Consortium for School Networking (CoSN) on March 6 unveiled two new resources for education leaders to take the digital leap in their schools.
Launched through the organization’s Leadership for Mobile Learning (LML) initiative, CoSN has developed “A Recipe for Success” video guide and a “What is Digital Transformation” graphic that capture the most surprising and counter-intuitive lessons of best practices in school district leadership.
“As leaders we need to stop re-inventing the wheel regarding mobile learning. This initiative provides a framework and deep insight for anyone, whether you are considering, beginning or in the middle of a mobile learning transformation,” said Lenny Schad, chief information officer with Houston ISD.

The “Recipe for Digital Transformation Success” identifies the elements that successful districts have in common and are missed by struggling districts.
Summarized in short videos and in a downloadable checklist, the recipe is informed through Schad’s work with other leading districts to find and articulate these commonalities.
The “What is Digital Transformation?” graphic emphasizes that reaching digital transformation is not the end of the journey, but a beginning that positions districts for the “new normal” of constant change.
It also describes what transformation looks like in each of the five critical dimensions: student outcomes, educator outcomes, culture, infrastructure and the role of information technology.
“What’s great about the LML initiative is that it brings together thought leaders, district leaders, practitioners, and leading technology innovators. We’ve combined the insights from these diverse, leading-edge experts to create what I consider to be some truly relevant and unusually salient resources for districts,” said Marie Bjerede, project director for CoSN’s Leadership for Mobile Learning initiative.
Provided at no cost, the LML initiative is supported by Amplify, BestBuy, C. Blohm & Associates, Filewave, Google, JAMF Software, Juniper Networks, Lenovo, Lightspeed Systems, Pearson, Promethean, Qualcomm, Sprint and Verizon.
