New web site encourages a closer look at nation’s energy use

SiteofWeek050510The National Academy of Sciences has launched a new web site that encourages a closer look at the nation’s energy use, based on data from the National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, Institute of Medicine, and National Research Council. A finalist for a Webby Award in the category of science, “What You Need to Know About Energy” provides an overview of our current energy system and covers four main topics: energy uses, sources of energy, the cost of energy (in terms of the environment, national security, and sustainability), and energy efficiency. Geared toward a nonscientific audience, the site offers objective and authoritative information in an accessible format.  Its producers are developing curriculum-based materials for middle and high school classrooms as well. http://www.needtoknow.nas.edu
