Acer unveils Windows 8-powered Aspire V5 and M5 Ultrabooks with all-day battery life

With Windows 8′s launch quickly approaching, Acer (2353) is not going to rest on its laurels and the company announced two new Windows 8 notebook series on Thursday, BGR News reports. The first is the Aspire M5 Series Ultrabook line with third-generation Intel (INTC) Core i5 processors and Turbo Boost Technology 2.0, HD 14-inch or 15.6-inch screens, 500GB hard drive and 20GB SSD, two USB 3.0 ports, backlit keyboards and 8-hour battery life. The only difference between the 14-inch and 15.6-inch Acer M5s is that the former has a 10-point multi-touch touchscreen and its body is cut from aluminum alloy, whereas the latter doesn’t have a touchscreen and is built from magnesium alloy. The Aspire M5 Series Ultrabooks will be sold exclusively at Best Buy in the U.S. beginning October 26th, and they’ll start at $699.99 (15.6-inch) and $799.99 (14-inch)…

Google reportedly set to blow open the tablet market later this year with $99 Nexus tablet

Google and its hardware partner ASUS are reportedly planning to launch a new $99 Nexus tablet this year that could open up the tablet market to a massive new group of consumers, BGR News reports. The report comes from Digitimes on Thursday, and it cites unnamed industry sources in claiming two new Nexus tablets are currently in the works. The first will apparently be a thinner version of the current $199 Nexus 7 and the second will be a new $99 model. Both tablets will utilize display panels from HannStar Display, the report claims…

LG Intuition ‘phablet’ coming to Verizon on September 6th for $199.99

Sorry, Samsung: You’re about to get some competition in the market for oversized smartphones, BGR News reports. Verizon on Tuesday announced that it would start selling LG’s five-inch Intuition smartphone on September 6th for $199.99 and a two-year service agreement. The Intuition, with a screen that’s slightly smaller than the 5.5-inch screen on Samsung’s Galaxy Note II behemoth, features an 8-megapixel camera capable of taking video at 1080 pixels, a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB of RAM, LTE connectivity and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
