Stop saying ‘technology’

What are the implications of the word “technology” in today’s education world?

I have an idea. Let’s stop using the word “technology.” I have a feeling that the sooner we get this word out of our vocabulary, the sooner we can speak meaningfully about how digital tools can support learning.

After working in the field of educational technology for quite a while, I am starting to believe that the word “technology” is poisonous.

I am reminded of the time I heard Ken Robinson remark that technology can be defined as “anything that was invented while you were born.” To many of our parents, the television is technology. Our grandparents had to get their heads around the technologies of the phone or the automobile.
