Accelerate Learning, developer of the award-winning STEMscopes line of PreK-12 STEM curriculum, today announced the appointment of Philip Galati as its new President and Chief Executive Officer. He succeeds Dr. Vernon Johnson who is retiring from the position but will continue to serve on the company’s board of directors.
Galati joins Accelerate Learning with a deep background in software and technology, most recently serving as CEO of Energy Services Group (ESG), a provider of back-office, billing and data management SaaS solutions for the energy industry. Under his leadership, ESG grew into an international technology leader serving millions of consumers in North America, Europe and Japan. Prior to that, Galati spent two years as CEO of Trillium Software, and earlier in his career he held numerous leadership positions in software, technology and professional services companies, including Sterling Commerce, Dell, IBM and Ernst & Young.
In his new position Galati will oversee Accelerate Learning’s continued expansion of digital product solutions for PreK-12 students, professional learning opportunities for educators, and the growth of the company’s recently launched STEMscopes Math product line.
“Accelerate Learning’s success is based on its practice of forming innovative partnerships and its mission to disrupt the status quo and bring STEM learning to all students,” said Galati. “I believe that this company has tremendous opportunities to build on that foundation, and I am excited to be leading this next phase of its growth.”
Under Johnson’s leadership, since 2013, Accelerate Learning grew from a single science product to providing a complete STEM curriculum offering including science, technology, engineering and math solutions. Today, the STEMscopes brand includes more than 30 customized STEM products that serve over 6 million students and 600,000 teachers across all 50 states and across the globe.
“We are confident that Phil Galati will provide Accelerate Learning the leadership to continue its groundbreaking work in STEM education and to reach millions more students over the coming years,” said Charles Rossotti, Chairman of the Accelerate Learning Board and Operating Executive at The Carlyle Group. “We are deeply thankful to Dr. Johnson for his vision and leadership in building a company that helps to engage students in all the STEM subjects and enables teachers to become better facilitators of STEM instruction. He is a consummate businessman who never forgot his roots as an educator.”
“It was a great privilege to have been Accelerate Learning’s CEO for the last seven years, and I am pleased to turn the helm over to Phil to lead the company into its next stage,” said Johnson. “Phil has consistently led companies to success after success, and I can’t think of any leader better suited to carry on our mission.”
Accelerate Learning is a portfolio company of The Carlyle Group, Quad Partners, Owl Ventures and Rice Management Company.
