Mega success with participation from over 600K students
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, May 26, 2021: SplashLearn, the game-based learning program used by millions of students, announced winners of its massively popular annual competition – the SpringBoard Math Challenge.
The 7th edition of SpringBoard Math Challenge 2021 was opened to elementary classrooms across North America on March 1, 2021 (the competition ended on May 9, 2021). Over the duration of this 10-week math challenge, SpringBoard attracted a record number of participating classes – over 600,000 students from 35,000 classes!
“We have received a phenomenal response at this year’s competition, and the numbers say it all. SplashLearn would like to wholeheartedly congratulate each and every school, teacher, and student who participated in the competition – they truly embody the unrelenting human spirit that strives to adapt and excel”, said Arpit Jain, CEO and co-founder, SplashLearn. “I would like to give a special shoutout to teachers who are doing a commendable job ensuring their students continue learning, even in these difficult times,” he added.
SplashLearn announced Ann Salway’s class from Abner Creek Elementary School, South Carolina as the National Champions of SpringBoard Math Challenge 2021. The 1st runners-up were Dion Johnson’s class from Marvin Elementary, Missouri and the 2nd runners-up were Donna Baker’s class from Sharon Springs Central School, New York. Along with national winners, the top 3 classes on the state leaderboards also won prizes. All the participating students will also receive a ‘Certificate of Participation’.
“SpringBoard was a fun way to revise, review and practice math concepts! My students were excited to participate and motivated to work hard for the contest!” said Ann Salway, teacher of the winning class. “Many weekends, I sat by my computer to respond to students who emailed me asking for more assignments! Each week, we set class goals as well as individual ones. We would celebrate every time the goals were met, like with ice cream or donut treats, or just have a fun day as a reward! The fact that it is 10 weeks long, also teaches the students an important lesson of perseverance and working hard towards a long-term goal. It encourages delayed gratification which is an important life skill.” Ms. Salway added.
“Taking a cue from last year, when it was hailed by many teachers as one of the “best online group activities”, we felt encouraged to organize the competition this year too. We are glad that the competition served as a big motivator to students during these trying times and helped them learn, have fun and stay connected with their class!” said Joy Deep Nath, co-founder, SplashLearn. Talking about the legacy of SpringBoard Challenge, he added, “SpringBoard is designed to propel students to practice and master key skills so they end the school year with math confidence, well prepared to graduate to the next grade and we are delighted that we have been able to achieve that year on year”.
