SILVER SPRING, MD (Monday, July 19, 2021) — Florida’s Martin County School District (MCSD) today announced a new partnership with Discovery Education, the worldwide edtech leader whose state-of-the-art digital platform supports learning wherever it takes place. Through this new collaboration, district teachers and students in all grades K-12 will, in the coming school year, have access to a flexible, dynamic digital resource that supports instruction and learning in all subjects at home, in the classroom, or where learning is taking place.
MCSD is an A-rated, state-designated Academically High-Performing School District located on Florida’s Treasure Coast. The district educates approximately 18,000 PK-12 students in its 12 elementary schools, 5 middle schools, 3 comprehensive high schools, 2 special centers, 4 preschool centers, and 2 adult education campuses. The district is fully accredited by Cognia, the accreditation organization for the Southern Association of Colleges, and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI).
MCSD staff continuously strive to elevate the quality of teaching and learning in its pursuit of educating all students for success. To support educators in creating engaging digital learning environments that connect student instruction to the world outside the classroom, the district selected Discovery Education’s award-winning K-12 learning platform.
Connecting educators to a vast collection of high-quality, standards-aligned content, ready-to-use digital lessons, intuitive quiz and activity creation tools, and professional learning resources, Discovery Education provides educators with a recently enhanced learning platform to facilitate engaging, daily instruction in any learning environment.
Discovery Education’s team continues adding, contextualizing, and organizing exciting new content and timely and relevant resources to the platform each month in response to current events and the ever-evolving needs of educators. These resources, sourced from trusted partners, are aligned to state and national standards, and help educators bring the outside world into teaching and learning every day.
The K-12 learning platform is designed to work within school systems’ existing infrastructure and workflows and provides safe, secure, simple access methods for educators and students. Through expanded, lasting partnerships with Microsoft Teams, Google Classroom, Schoology, Canvas, Brightspace, and Clever, integrating Discovery Education’s K-12 learning platform into existing IT architecture is easier than ever.
To help district educators quickly begin using these resources when the 2021-2022 school year begins, Discovery Education will this summer provide MCSD’s teachers dedicated professional learning opportunities. Through these interactive professional development sessions, participants will learn best practices for integrating technology and digital content into teaching and learning in ways that will maximize the district’s investment in digital resources, increase student engagement in instruction, and improve students’ academic achievement. These educators will then share their knowledge with their peers so that all educators are prepared to use these resources for instruction.
“One of the biggest lessons for educators from the COVID-19 pandemic is the importance of high-quality digital materials that deeply engage students and provide flexibility for various teaching scenarios,” said Martin County’s Coordinator of Digital Learning George Vogeley. “Discovery Education’s platform checks both of those boxes. As this resource can be used either in school or in the remote environment with equal success, it provides opportunities for students to continue learning anywhere. We are very excited to begin implementing this resource in the coming school year.”
In addition to the powerful digital resources and useful classroom tools, the Discovery Education platform connects educators to the Discovery Education Community. A global community of education professionals, the Discovery Education Community unites members in school systems and around the world through social media, virtual conferences, and in-person events, fostering valuable networking, idea sharing, and inspiration.
“Martin County Schools has created a compelling vision for the future of teaching and learning in the post-COVID-19 world,” said Dan Gammage, Discovery Education Senior Manager of Partner Success. “We are proud to be selected to support the teachers and administrators of this great school district, and we look forward to rolling our sleeves up and supporting the implementation of our platform districtwide.”
